Presentation
The Professional Master's Degree in Sustainable Development (MPDS) aims to integrate and update the main dimensions of the course. The program aims to train highly qualified professionals to lead changes in products and processes, with a focus on improving the competitiveness of national industry, especially that of the state of Bahia, and in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, the MPDS integrates Industry 4.0 technologies, preparing students to work in an increasingly digitalized and connected environment.
By incorporating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), automation and big data, the program enables students to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that meet the demands of modern industry and global sustainability challenges. The circular economy and clean technologies are also key focuses of the course, providing students with the necessary tools to promote the reuse of resources, minimize waste and reduce environmental impacts in the various production chains. The MPDS prepares students to implement sustainable practices that align with these concepts, transforming waste into resources and promoting sustainability at all levels of production.
THE COURSE
The MPDS aims to:
To train qualified human resources at Professional Master's level through applied research on the following themes: Sustainable Development, Clean Technologies, Green Chemistry, Circular Economy, Virtual Systems and Digitalization.
This training will take place through an interdisciplinary approach with a systemic vision of the three lines of research addressed in the program. The study of this subject should be carried out with the help of specialists from various fields of science, with experience in chemistry and related areas with a multidisciplinary vision, able to carry out work in the following lines of research: (I) Chemistry, Industry and Sustainable Development; (II) Instrumentation and Automation; and (III) Applied Chemistry.
The course is run on a credit basis, with compulsory subjects and activities offered every four months, making up a total of 360 credits, distributed as follows:
1 - Three (03) compulsory subjects (09 credits) and three (03) elective subjects (09 credits), chosen from those related to your research topic, taken in the first three quarters, and Compulsory Activities (120 credits, consisting of Foreign Language Proficiency, Master's Project, Qualifying Exam and Dissertation Defense).
2 - Guided Research, from the fourth semester onwards;
3 - Defense of the Research Project (15 credits), by the end of the third semester, with presentation to an examining board made up of at least three professors, one of whom is your supervisor and the other two invited, who must belong to the MPDS teaching staff;
4 - Qualifying Exam (35 credits), which will be held during the fourth semester, with a presentation to an examining board made up of at least three professors, one of whom will be your supervisor and the other two invited, at least one of whom must not be a member of the MPDS teaching staff;
5 - Dissertation defense (60 credits) at the end of the course, which will be held by the 24th. Month, with a presentation to an examining board made up of at least three professors, one of whom will be your advisor and the other two invited, at least one of whom must not belong to the MPDS teaching staff;
Target audience:
The MPDS is aimed at higher education graduates, preferably those with a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related areas.
Exceptionally, entry to the MPDS may be extended to higher education graduates from other undergraduate courses, provided they are recommended by their future advisor and are considered suitable in the specific knowledge assessments of the selection process.
